Car window tinting in Byford costs $249 to $550 through Protec Glass Tinting, with a $0 call-out to your home or workplace. The final price depends on the vehicle and whether you choose SunTek CIR or Rayno Phantom S9, and removing old tint costs $50 to $150.

Our Byford visits are part of our window tinting service in Perth, and with our mobile tinting service there is no drop-off or waiting room. Ask about our ceramic tint range if you want the strongest heat control. Our nearby service areas include Armadale, Baldivis and Canning Vale.

Does Window Tint Reduce Glare at Sunrise and Sunset?

Yes. Quality tint cuts the glare from low sunrise and sunset light, which helps Byford drivers commuting on South Western Highway or Tonkin Highway, where the sun can sit right in your field of view. It reduces the visible light coming through the side windows, so bright conditions are easier on the eyes.

In simple terms, a lower VLT lets less visible light through the glass and film. Darker is not always better, though: the finished tint has to suit the window position and meet WA's rules. Tint will not remove every reflection, so the right shade and a clean installation still matter. Read how tinting helps reduce glare.

Film Options for Glare and Heat

A useful distinction: VLT measures visible light, while TSER measures the share of the sun's total energy the film rejects. Two films can look the same shade but reject different amounts of heat. See the SunTek specifications and Rayno's published figures.

Tinting for UV, Heat and Family Cars

Film reduces the solar energy coming through the glass, which helps on long dawn and dusk drives through the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale and adds privacy for passengers and belongings. How well it works depends on the shade, the glass area, the vehicle and where it is parked.

UV filtering is a separate benefit from darkness. SunTek CIR carries the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation, and both films block over 99% of UV. Rear passengers in family SUVs gain most from cutting glare, while commuters usually want a legal, comfortable shade that keeps a clear view out.

Replacing Faded or Damaged Window Film

Old tint usually shows its age before it stops working. These are the common signs it is time to replace it:

  • Bubbles or peeling: the film is lifting or the adhesive is failing.
  • Purple or patchy colour: older film has faded or broken down.
  • Poor rear visibility: worn film makes it harder to see out the back.
  • Sticky residue or scratches: a sign removal and replacement is worth assessing.

Rear glass needs care because of the demister lines, and aged film and adhesive can make removal more involved. Removal is $50 to $150, depending on how far the film has lifted, the adhesive and the vehicle.

WA Tint Limits for Byford Vehicles

Tint rules are set state-wide by the WA Department of Transport in its IB-119D bulletin, so they are the same in Byford as anywhere in WA:

  • Every window forward of the B pillar must measure at least 35% VLT through the glass and film together.
  • On passenger vehicles, glass behind the B pillar can go to 20% VLT, only where external mirrors are fitted on each side.
  • The windscreen can only take a band across the top, above the wiper sweep and no more than 10% of its area.
  • Film reflectance is limited to 10%.

Factory glass already absorbs some light, so we check the finished reading rather than the label on the film. Our guide to the darkest legal tint in WA has the detail.
