Car Window Tinting ScarboroughBeach Sun and Coastal Glare
Car window tinting in Scarborough costs $249 to $550 through Protec Glass Tinting, fitted at your home or workplace with no call-out fee. Old tint removal is $50 to $150 if needed. The price depends on the vehicle, the condition of the glass and whether you choose SunTek CIR or Rayno Phantom S9.
We have tinted cars across Perth since 1994, and we assess every vehicle first so the film suits the glass, the look you want and WA's tint rules.
The Scarborough service works like the rest of our car window tinting across Perth: we come to you. See how mobile window tinting works before you book, and if heat is the main problem, compare ceramic window film with our other films. Other nearby suburbs we cover include Osborne Park, Balcatta and Joondalup.
Coastal Driving and Your Car's Glass
Scarborough's beachfront is hard on a car. Reflected glare off the ocean is strong along West Coast Highway, and parked cars, surf vans and dual-cab utes heat up quickly in exposed spots. Quality film cuts the incoming solar energy and glare and adds privacy, while keeping a legal level of light through the glass. ARPANSA advises sun protection whenever the UV Index is 3 or above, which on the coast is most of the year.
Salt and sand gather around window seals, so careful preparation matters before film goes on. We check for old tint, the glass condition, how the windows operate and the shade you want before we start.

What We Need on the Day
- Clear access to the vehicle and all its doors
- A clean, sheltered spot where practical
- Permission if the car is at a workplace
- A heads-up if old tint needs removing
- Time for the car to stay put while the film is fitted and checked
After the job, rinse salt and sand off the seals when you wash the car, and clean the inside of the glass with a soft microfibre cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner. Our aftercare guide covers the first week.
The Best Window Tint for Coastal Driving
Rayno Phantom S9 is a strong choice on the coast because it pairs heat rejection with very high UV blocking: S9-35 is 35% VLT, 58% TSER and over 99.99% UV, and S9-20 is 20% VLT and 64% TSER. SunTek CIR is the other ceramic option, with CIR 35 at 35% VLT and 52% TSER, and CIR 20 at 22% VLT and 58% TSER.
Quick answer: the best tint is not the darkest. It is the film that gives the heat and glare performance you want while meeting the legal light level for each piece of glass. SunTek CIR also carries the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation for its UV protection.

WA Tint Limits for Scarborough Vehicles
Tint rules are set state-wide by the WA Department of Transport in its IB-119D bulletin, so they are the same in Scarborough as anywhere in WA:
- Every window forward of the B pillar must measure at least 35% VLT through the glass and film together.
- On passenger vehicles, glass behind the B pillar can go to 20% VLT, only where external mirrors are fitted on each side.
- The windscreen can only take a band across the top, above the wiper sweep and no more than 10% of its area.
- Film reflectance is limited to 10%.
Vans: where the manufacturer offers the van with metal panels behind the B pillar instead of windows, the bulletin allows that glass to go down to 0% VLT. The front windows still need 35%.
Factory glass already absorbs some light, so we check the finished reading rather than the label on the film. Our guide to the darkest legal tint in WA has the detail.

No, the film is on the inside of the glass. Salt and sand can collect along the seals, so rinse them when you wash the car and clean the glass with an ammonia-free cleaner.
