Car Window Tinting KalamundaGlare on the Hills Roads

In Kalamunda, Protec Glass Tinting charges $249 to $550 for mobile car window tinting, with a $0 call-out to your home or workplace. Removing old tint costs $50 to $150 extra. The price depends on the vehicle, the number and shape of its windows, any existing tint and whether you choose SunTek CIR or Rayno Phantom S9.

Quick answer: most jobs take one to three hours, and the shade is matched to your car's glass and WA's light-transmission rules before we start.

Our Kalamunda visits are part of our car window tinting across Perth, and with tinting at your home or workplace there is no drop-off or waiting room. Ask about nano-ceramic tint if you want the strongest heat control. Our nearby service areas include Midland, Guildford and Belmont.

Glare on Perth Hills Roads

Kalamunda Road and the Zig Zag at Gooseberry Hill swing quickly between bright sun and flickering tree shade. Window film reduces the intensity of the light coming through the side and rear glass, which makes daily driving through the hills more comfortable.

Tint does not replace clean glass, sunglasses or careful driving, and it cannot remove glare completely where sunlight flashes through the trees. What a suitable film does is soften the harshness of that light while keeping a legal reading. Read how tinting helps reduce glare.

What to Prioritise When Choosing Tint

  • Glare control for changing sun and shade on hill roads
  • Heat management for cars parked outdoors
  • UV filtering for the interior and the people inside
  • A legal finished reading for each piece of glass
  • The right shade for front, rear-side or rear windows

VLT measures the visible light through the finished glass and TSER the total solar energy rejected. A darker-looking film is not automatically the one with the best heat rejection.

Tree Sap, Bird Droppings and Paint Protection

Cars parked under gum trees in Kalamunda collect sap and bird droppings, and both can etch paint if they are left to bake in the sun. Window tint does not help with that, but we also fit paint protection film, a clear layer on the bonnet and other exposed panels that takes the damage instead of the paint.

If your car lives under trees, ask about tint and paint protection film together when you book.

Both films carry a lifetime manufacturer warranty, and a clear recommendation names the film, shade and window position before fitting begins. That avoids assuming a rear-window shade can go on the front, or that darker always means cooler. See the SunTek specifications and Rayno's published figures.

WA Tint Limits for Kalamunda Vehicles

Tint rules are set state-wide by the WA Department of Transport in its IB-119D bulletin, so they are the same in Kalamunda as anywhere in WA:

  • Every window forward of the B pillar must measure at least 35% VLT through the glass and film together.
  • On passenger vehicles, glass behind the B pillar can go to 20% VLT, only where external mirrors are fitted on each side.
  • The windscreen can only take a band across the top, above the wiper sweep and no more than 10% of its area.
  • Film reflectance is limited to 10%.

Factory glass already absorbs some light, so we check the finished reading rather than the label on the film. Our guide to the darkest legal tint in WA has the detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

$249 to $550 depending on vehicle size and film, plus roughly $50 to $150 if old tint has to come off. There is no call-out fee. See our prices.

Yes, within the limits in IB-119D: at least 35% VLT forward of the B pillar, and 20% behind it with mirrors on each side, measured through glass and film together. See the darkest legal tint in WA.

Usually 1 to 3 hours per vehicle. Keep the windows up for 48 hours afterwards so the film edges can set.

Yes. Tint on the side and rear glass softens the bright patches between shade and sun. It will not remove glare completely, and the front windows stay at 35% so the road stays clear in the shade.

It helps. The clear film takes the sap and droppings instead of the paint, and it can be cleaned off. See paint protection film.
