Car Window Tinting FAQ Perth27 Straight Answers

Straight answers to the questions Perth drivers ask us most, from WA tint law to warranty. Every answer starts with the short version.

WA Tint Law

At least 35% VLT on every window forward of the B pillar, and down to 20% behind it if the car has external mirrors on both sides. VLT is measured through the glass and film together.

Under the WA Department of Transport's IB-119D bulletin, the windscreen can only take a top band and film reflectance is capped at 10%. Our guide to the darkest legal tint in WA goes window by window.

No. Anything forward of the B pillar must finish at 35% VLT or lighter.

20% is only allowed behind the B pillar, on passenger vehicles with ADR14-compliant mirrors on each side. A film labelled 35% can even finish below 35% on factory glass, which is why we check the finished reading.

Only a band across the top.

It must sit above the wiper sweep, stay out of your primary line of sight and cover no more than 10% of the windscreen area.

Yes. VLT is measured through the original glass and the film together.

Dark privacy glass leaves less room for film, so some cars need a lighter film than expected, or none on certain windows.

You can receive a compliance notice or an immediate fine under the Road Traffic (Vehicles) Regulations 2014, and the film may need to come off.

Choosing a legal shade at the start is cheaper than refitting later.

Films and Heat Rejection

Both are non-metallic films that cut heat and glare; ceramic rejects more heat at the same shade.

We fit SunTek CIR nano-ceramic and Rayno Phantom S9 nano carbon ceramic. Compare ceramic tint and carbon tint, or read ceramic vs carbon tint.

Up to 64% of total solar energy with Rayno Phantom S9-20, and 46% to 58% with SunTek CIR depending on shade.

Those figures come from the manufacturers’ specifications. Total solar energy rejection (TSER) is the figure to compare, not darkness.

Yes, both films we fit block over 99% of UV.

SunTek CIR carries the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation, and the Cancer Council notes film can cut UV through car glass by over 99%. See UV protection window tinting.

Not necessarily. Darkness controls glare and privacy; heat rejection depends on the film technology.

A lighter ceramic film can keep a cabin cooler than a darker one, which matters when the front windows must stay at 35% or lighter.

No. Both films we fit are non-metallic, so they do not interfere with GPS, mobile or radio reception.

Mobile Service and What We Need on the Day

Yes, every job is mobile. We fit the film where your car is parked, anywhere in our service area.

Read how mobile window tinting works.

Just the car, parked with room to open every door, and access to it for the whole job.

Tell us beforehand about any existing tint, factory privacy glass, or parking rules at your workplace.

Usually 1 to 3 hours, depending on the vehicle and the number of windows.

Removing old tint adds time, and the car needs to stay parked while we work.

Eighteen suburbs from Joondalup to Mandurah, including Osborne Park, Malaga, Midland, Belmont, Canning Vale, Applecross, Fremantle and Rockingham.

See the full list on our service areas page. If you are nearby but not listed, call us.

Drying Time and Aftercare

Wait 48 hours.

Winding a window down earlier can catch the film edge before the adhesive settles. Our window tint aftercare guide covers the first week.

That is normal while the film cures.

It is moisture under the film, and it clears on its own as it dries; the time varies with temperature and humidity. If anything remains once it has cured, call us.

Use a soft microfibre cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner.

Avoid abrasive pads, scrapers and harsh chemicals, and wait 48 hours before cleaning the inside of new tint.

Quality film like ours is covered by a lifetime manufacturer warranty, so judge it by condition, not age.

Cheap dyed film fades much sooner. See how long window tint lasts.

Prices and Payment

Typically $249 to $550, depending on vehicle size and film.

Smaller cars sit at the lower end, large SUVs and people movers at the upper end. See our car window tinting prices.

No. The call-out fee is $0 anywhere in our service area.

By cash, credit card or bank transfer.

Yes, roughly $50 to $150, depending on the vehicle and the condition of the old film.

Film that peels cleanly is quick; flaking film over rear-screen heating lines takes longer. Details are on our prices page.

Warranty

Every install carries a lifetime manufacturer warranty on the film, for both SunTek CIR and Rayno Phantom S9.

See what is included on our car window tinting prices page.

Bubbling, peeling, cracking and colour change in the film.

Call us on 08 9244 3758 if there is a problem with your film, and we will take it from there.

Paint Protection Film and Ceramic Coating

Yes. We fit self-healing SunTek paint protection film to guard against stone chips, scratches and road debris, quoted separately.

Compare it in our ceramic coating vs PPF guide.

Yes. We apply Onyx nano-ceramic ceramic coating to protect paint and make washing easier.

It is a paint treatment, not the same product as ceramic window tint.
